The Chrome Object Wrapper (COW) implementation in Mozilla Firefox before 16.0, Firefox ESR 10.x before 10.0.8, Thunderbird before 16.0, Thunderbird ESR 10.x before 10.0.8, and SeaMonkey before 2.13 does not prevent access to properties of a prototype for a standard class, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript code with chrome privileges via a crafted web site.
The weakness was shared 10/09/2012 by Christian Holler (moz_bug_r_a4) as MFSA 2012-83 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-4184 since 08/08/2012. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
