Intel Expressway Cloud Access 360 up to 2.0 path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Intel Expressway Cloud Access 360 up to 2.0 (Cloud Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

Directory traversal vulnerability in McAfee Cloud Identity Manager 3.0, 3.1, and 3.5.1, McAfee Cloud Single Sign On (MCSSO) before 4.0.1, and Intel Expressway Cloud Access 360-SSO 2.1 and 2.5 allows remote authenticated users to read an unspecified file containing a hash of the administrator password via unknown vectors.

The weakness was published 03/18/2014 by Andrea Micalizzi (rgod) with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is shared at kc.mcafee.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-2536 since 03/18/2014. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73187 (McAfee Cloud Single Sign On < 4.0.1 Information Disclosure (SB10066) (Windows)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows.

Upgrading to version 2.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 16239.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (91813) and Tenable (73187).
