A vulnerability has been found in F-Secure Anti-Virus 4.52/4.60/5.42/5.52/6.21 (Anti-Malware Software) and classified as critical. Buffer overflow in multiple F-Secure Anti-Virus products, including F-Secure Anti-Virus 5.42 and earlier, allows remote attackers to bypass scanning or cause a denial of service (crash or module restart), depending on the product, via a malformed LHA archive.
The weakness was published 05/26/2004 by Lukasz Wojtow with F-Secure (Website). The advisory is available at f-secure.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-2405 since 08/18/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at f-secure.com.
