The HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) BMC implementation allows remote attackers to bypass authentication and execute arbitrary IPMI commands by using cipher suite 0 (aka cipher zero) and an arbitrary password.
The weakness was disclosed 01/20/2015 as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - January 2015 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at oracle.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-4784 since 07/08/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/18/2017).
As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 42415 (IPMI 2.0 Cipher Type Zero Authentication Bypass Vulnerability).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
