The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-1420 since 01/29/2015. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84308 (Fedora 21 : kernel-4.0.5-200.fc21 (2015-9704)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 157380 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Security Update for Unbreakable Enterprise kernel (ELSA-2017-3516)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org.
