A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in SensioLabs Symfony (Programming Tool Software). Affected is the function Yaml::parse
of the component Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Symfony 2.0.x before 2.0.22, 2.1.x before 2.1.7, and 2.2.x remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code via a serialized PHP object to the (1) Yaml::parse or (2) Yaml\Parser::parse function, a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-1348.
The weakness was presented 06/02/2014 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-1397 since 01/16/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
Upgrading to version 2.0.12 eliminates this vulnerability.
