A vulnerability was found in F5 FirePass 7.0.0 HF-70-6. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file CitrixAuth.php. The manipulation of the argument sessionId
with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity.
The bug was discovered 06/01/2012. The weakness was disclosed 12/03/2012 by S. Viehböck with SEC Consult Vulnerability Lab as 123111 as confirmed advisory (Exploit-DB). The advisory is shared for download at exploit-db.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
A public exploit has been developed by SEC Consult and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 181 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. By approaching the search of inurl:CitrixAuth.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 7.0.0 HF-70-7 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at support.f5.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
