A vulnerability was found in GnuPG Libgcrypt up to 1.5.3. It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Libgcrypt before 1.5.4, as used in GnuPG and other products, does not properly perform ciphertext normalization and ciphertext randomization, which makes it easier for physically proximate attackers to conduct key-extraction attacks by leveraging the ability to collect voltage data from exposed metal, a different vector than CVE-2013-4576.
The weakness was disclosed 10/09/2014 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.gnupg.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-5270 since 08/15/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 77802 (Mandriva Linux Security Advisory : gnupg (MDVSA-2014:180)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Mandriva Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350125 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for libgcrypt: ALAS-2015-577).
Upgrading to version 1.4.6 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (77802).
