KDE KDE-Runtime up to 4.14.2 cross site scripting

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in KDE-Runtime 4.14.3 and earlier, kwebkitpart 1.3.4 and earlier, and kio-extras 5.1.1 and earlier allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a crafted URI using the (1) zip, (2) trash, (3) tar, (4) thumbnail, (5) smtps, (6) smtp, (7) smb, (8) remote, (9) recentdocuments, (10) nntps, (11) nntp, (12) network, (13) mbox, (14) ldaps, (15) ldap, (16) fonts, (17) file, (18) desktop, (19) cgi, (20) bookmarks, or (21) ar scheme, which is not properly handled in an error message.

The weakness was disclosed 12/08/2014 with Brown (Website). The advisory is shared at ubuntu.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-8600 since 11/04/2014. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 79767 (Fedora 19 : kwebkitpart-1.3.4-5.fc19 (2014-15124)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 167677 (OpenSuSE Security Update for kdebase4-runtime, kdelibs4, (openSUSE-SU-2015:0573-1)).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (98814) and Tenable (79767). The entries 38452 and 72821 are pretty similar.
