HumHub up to 0.10.0 actionIndex from sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in HumHub up to 0.10.0. Affected is the function actionIndex. The manipulation of the argument from with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

SQL injection vulnerability in the actionIndex function in protected/modules_core/notification/controllers/ListController.php in HumHub 0.10.0-rc.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the from parameter to index.php. NOTE: this can be leveraged for cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via a request that causes an error.

The weakness was disclosed 01/06/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-9528 since 01/06/2015. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.

A public exploit has been developed by Jos Wetzels/Emiel Florijn and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 27 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (99272) and Exploit-DB (35510). The entries VDB-252999 and VDB-253000 are pretty similar.
