A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 (Web Browser). It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function Layout::FlowBoxBuilder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted web site, aka "Internet Explorer Memory Corruption Vulnerability," a different vulnerability than CVE-2015-1662 and CVE-2015-1665.

The issue has been introduced in 06/26/2013. The weakness was published 04/14/2015 by Jason Kratzer with Zero Day Initiative as MS15-032 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-1659 since 02/17/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/06/2022). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 657 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82770 (MS15-032: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (3038314)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100229 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update (MS15-032)).

Applying the patch MS15-032 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at A possible mitigation has been published 3 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19322.
