A vulnerability was found in TheCartPress eCommerce Shopping Cart up to 1.3.9.2 on WordPress (E-Commerce Management Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the file wp-admin/admin.php. The manipulation of the argument tcp_box_path with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Directory traversal vulnerability in the TheCartPress eCommerce Shopping Cart (aka The Professional WordPress eCommerce Plugin) plugin for WordPress before 1.3.9.3 allows remote administrators to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the tcp_box_path parameter in the checkout_editor_settings page to wp-admin/admin.php.

The weakness was presented 05/14/2015 (Website). The advisory is available at wordpress.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-3301 since 04/13/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

A public exploit has been developed by High-Tech Bridge SA and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 15 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. Upgrading to version 1.3.9.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
