The weakness was disclosed 07/14/2015 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-2380 since 03/19/2015. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84739 (MS15-070: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office Could Allow Remote Code Execution (3072620)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110257 (Microsoft Office Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS15-070)).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 20186.
