The weakness was shared 07/15/2015 by AbdulAziz Hariri as APSB15-15 as confirmed advisory (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared at helpx.adobe.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-4452 since 06/08/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1211 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84800 (Adobe Acrobat < 10.1.15 / 11.0.12 / 2015.006.30060 / 2015.008.20082 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB15-15)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123662 (Adobe Reader and Acrobat Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB15-15)).

Upgrading to version 10.1.15 or 11.0.12 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 20903.
