A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in GnuTLS 3.3.16/3.4 (Network Encryption Software). Affected is an unknown code block of the component DN Decoding Handler. The weakness was presented 08/11/2015 as GNUTLS-SA-2015-3 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at gnutls.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-6251. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The advisory points out:
Mozilla developers and community identified and fixed several memory safety bugs in the browser engine used in Firefox and other Mozilla-based products. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption under certain circumstances, and we presume that with enough effort at least some of these could be exploited to run arbitrary code.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168030 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security update for gnutls (SUSE-SU-2015:1518-1)).
Upgrading to version 3.3.17 or 3.4.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
