Microsoft Office 2007 SP3 and 2010 SP2, Live Meeting 2007 Console, Lync 2010, Lync 2010 Attendee, Lync 2013 SP1, and Lync Basic 2013 SP1 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Office Graphics Library (OGL) font, aka "Microsoft Office Graphics Component Remote Code Execution Vulnerability."

The weakness was disclosed 08/15/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-2431 since 03/19/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by Google Security Research and been published 6 days after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 85348 (MS15-080 : Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Graphics Component Could Allow Remote Code Execution (3078662)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91085 (Microsoft Graphics Component Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS15-080)).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
