The invokeNextValve function in identity/federation/bindings/tomcat/idp/AbstractIDPValve.java in PicketLink before 2.8.0.Beta1 does not properly check role based authorization, which allows remote authenticated users to gain access to restricted application resources via a (1) direct request or (2) request through an SP initiated flow.

The weakness was shared 08/26/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at issues.jboss.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-3158 since 04/10/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
