Oracle Java up to 7 Update 13 Deployment privileges management

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability has been found in Oracle Java up to 7 Update 13 (Programming Language Software) and classified as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component Deployment. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Unspecified vulnerability in the Java Runtime Environment component in Oracle Java SE 7 Update 13 and earlier and 6 Update 39 and earlier allows remote attackers to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability via unknown vectors related to Deployment.

The weakness was presented 02/19/2013 by Ben Murphy as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared at oracle.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-1487 since 01/30/2013. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/05/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72139 (GLSA-201401-30 : Oracle JRE/JDK: Multiple vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120879 (Oracle Java SE Critical Patch Update - February 2013 Special Update).

Upgrading to version 7 Update 15 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
