The weakness was disclosed 12/08/2015 with Qualys as HT205637 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-5333 since 07/01/2015. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The advisory points out:

Multiple vulnerabilities existed in LibreSSL versions prior to 2.1.8. These were addressed by updating LibreSSL to version 2.1.8.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86434 (FreeBSD : LibreSSL -- Memory leak and buffer overflow (e75a96df-73ca-11e5-9b45-b499baebfeaf)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371218 (Apple macOS Mojave 10.14 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2018-9-24-1)).

Upgrading to version 10.11.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (86434). The entries 78550, 78551, 79411 and 79541 are pretty similar.
