The MATCH_ASSOC function in NTP before version 4.2.8p9 and 4.3.x before 4.3.92 allows remote attackers to cause an out-of-bounds reference via an addpeer request with a large hmode value.
The weakness was presented 04/27/2016 by Security Team with Qihoo 360 as confirmed security notice (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.ntp.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-2518 since 02/20/2016. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
