A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Office 2007/2010/2013/2013 RT (Office Suite Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Graphics. The weakness was released 08/09/2016 by arma with Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) as MS16-099 / 3177451 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-3318 since 03/15/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 92839 (MS16-099: Security Update for Microsoft Office (3177451)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110282 (Microsoft Office Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS16-099)).
Applying the patch MS16-099 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
