Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted web site, aka "Internet Explorer Memory Corruption Vulnerability," a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-3122 and CVE-2013-3124.
The issue has been introduced in 03/16/2010. The weakness was shared 06/11/2013 by Ivan Fratric and Ben Hawkes with Google Security Team as MS13-047 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-3117 since 04/17/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/14/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1183 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. Upgrading to version 10 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at windows.microsoft.com. Applying the patch MS13-047 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 12972.
