A vulnerability was found in ISPConfig 3.0.5.4 p6. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the file /sites/database_user_edit.php. The manipulation of the argument Edit Formular/Invalid Exception-Handling
with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability (Stored). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Impacted is integrity.

The public release happened without coordination with the vendor. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
A public exploit has been developed in HTML and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:sites/database_user_edit.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
The best possible mitigation is suggested to be Workaround. The advisory contains the following remark:
The vulnerability can be patched by a secure parse of the database username input field. Filter the input by disallowing the usage of special chars. Parse the exception-handlung and edit form output locations were the input executes permanently.
