A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 48 (Web Browser). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function mozilla::nsTextNodeDirectionalityMap::RemoveElementFromMap
of the component Bidirectional Text Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Use-after-free vulnerability in the mozilla::nsTextNodeDirectionalityMap::RemoveElementFromMap function in Mozilla Firefox before 49.0 and Firefox ESR 45.x before 45.4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via bidirectional text.
The weakness was published 09/22/2016 as MFSA2016-85 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-5280. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 49.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
