Unspecified vulnerability in the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) component in Oracle Java SE 7 Update 21 and earlier, 6 Update 45 and earlier, and 5.0 Update 45 and earlier, and OpenJDK 7, allows remote attackers to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability via unknown vectors related to 2D. NOTE: the previous information is from the June 2013 CPU. Oracle has not commented on claims from another vendor that this issue allows remote attackers to bypass the Java sandbox via vectors related to "Incorrect ByteBandedRaster size checks" in 2D.

This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-2473 since 03/05/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/17/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69762 (Amazon Linux AMI : java-1.7.0-openjdk (ALAS-2013-204)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350537 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for java-1.6.0-openjdk: ALAS-2013-207).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:
Due to the threat posed by a successful attack, Oracle strongly recommends that customers apply CPU fixes as soon as possible.Heise notes, that "[t]his is the last Java update that will occur on the out of sync timetable that has been in play since the start of the year. The next update is scheduled to take place as part of Oracle's normal Critical Patch Update schedule in October this year". Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13292.
