HP VAN SDN Controller SSLv3 POODLE cryptographic issues

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in HP VAN SDN Controller (version now known). This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component SSLv3. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issues vulnerability (POODLE). The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-310. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:

The SSL protocol 3.0, as used in OpenSSL through 1.0.1i and other products, uses nondeterministic CBC padding, which makes it easier for man-in-the-middle attackers to obtain cleartext data via a padding-oracle attack, aka the "POODLE" issue.

The weakness was disclosed 10/11/2016 by Krzysztof Kotowicz with Google Security Team as HPSBPV03516 as confirmed mailinglist post (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-3566. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 79713 (Scientific Linux Security Update : nss, nss-util, and nss-softokn on SL5.x, SL6.x, SL7.x i386/x86_64 (POODLE)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Scientific Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86129 (IBM WebSphere Application Server Multiple Vulnerabilities (swg21697368)-Deprecated).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. It is possible to mitigate the problem by applying the configuration setting clientAuth="false" sslEnabledProtocols=" TLSv1.1,TLSv1.2". The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (79713). The entries 67791, 68695, 68795 and 68757 are pretty similar.
