MyLittleForum 2.3.6.1 CSS privileges management

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in MyLittleForum 2.3.6.1 (Forum Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component CSS Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect integrity.

The weakness was presented 11/17/2016 by Tim Coen with Curesec Research Team as MyLittleForum 2.3.6.1: XSS & RPO as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068. The advisory points out:

Because the application includes CSS files relative instead of absolute, an attacker can overwrite the path. With some browsers, this may lead to CSS injection.

A public exploit has been developed by Tim Coen and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The code used by the exploit is:

http://localhost/mylittleforum-2.3.6.1/index.php////?id=1

Upgrading to version 2.3.7beta eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
