The bug was discovered 12/13/2016. The weakness was presented 12/13/2016 by daybreaker@Minionz with Trend Micro as HT207423 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-7619 since 09/09/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The advisory points out:
A validation issue existed in the handling of symlinks. This issue was addressed through improved validation of symlinks.
