A vulnerability has been found in Zend Framework up to 2.4.10/2.5.x/2.6.x/2.7.1 (Programming Tool Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function setFrom of the component zend-mail. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The setFrom function in the Sendmail adapter in the zend-mail component before 2.4.11, 2.5.x, 2.6.x, and 2.7.x before 2.7.2, and Zend Framework before 2.4.11 might allow remote attackers to pass extra parameters to the mail command and consequently execute arbitrary code via a \" (backslash double quote) in a crafted e-mail address.

The weakness was presented 12/30/2016 (Website). The advisory is available at framework.zend.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-10034. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1202 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. Upgrading to version 2.4.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
