The parse_instruction function in gallium/auxiliary/tgsi/tgsi_text.c in virglrenderer before 0.6.0 allows local guest OS users to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds array access and process crash) via a crafted texture instruction.

The bug was discovered 01/24/2017. The weakness was shared 03/15/2017 by Li Qiang with 360.cn Inc. (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-5580 since 01/25/2017. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Upgrading to version 0.6.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at cgit.freedesktop.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published 1 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
