A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Linux Kernel up to 4.10.6 (Operating System). Affected is an unknown code of the file net/core/skbuff.c of the component TCP Stack. The manipulation as part of a System Calls leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
The TCP stack in the Linux kernel through 4.10.6 mishandles the SCM_TIMESTAMPING_OPT_STATS feature, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information from the kernel's internal socket data structures or cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via crafted system calls, related to net/core/skbuff.c and net/socket.c.
The bug was discovered 03/27/2017. The weakness was disclosed 03/28/2017 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-7277 since 03/27/2017. The attack needs to be approached locally. A authentication is needed for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
