A vulnerability was found in MODX Revolution up to 2.5.6 (Content Management System) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the component HTTP Header Handler. In MODX Revolution before 2.5.7, an attacker might be able to trigger XSS by injecting a payload into the HTTP Host header of a request. This is exploitable only in conjunction with other issues such as Cache Poisoning.
The bug was discovered 04/26/2017. The weakness was shared 05/18/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at citadelo.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-9071 since 05/18/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
