A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Apple watchOS up to 3.2.1 (Smartwatch Operating System). Affected is some unknown functionality of the component AVEVideoEncoder. The manipulation as part of a Application leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. An issue was discovered in certain Apple products. iOS before 10.3.2 is affected. tvOS before 10.2.1 is affected. watchOS before 3.2.2 is affected. The issue involves the "AVEVideoEncoder" component. It allows attackers to execute arbitrary code in a privileged context or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted app.
The bug was discovered 05/17/2017. The weakness was released 05/22/2017 with Zimperium zLabs (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-6996 since 03/17/2017. Local access is required to approach this attack. A authentication is required for exploitation.
