A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software). This affects some unknown functionality of the file epan/dissectors/packet-opensafety.c of the component openSAFETY Dissector. In Wireshark 2.2.0 to 2.2.6 and 2.0.0 to 2.0.12, the openSAFETY dissector could crash or exhaust system memory. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-opensafety.c by checking for a negative length.
The bug was discovered 06/01/2017. The weakness was released 06/02/2017 by OSS-Fuzz (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-9350. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
