Details
A vulnerability was found in GNU binutils 2.28 (Programming Tool Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects the function print_insn_score32 of the file opcodes/score7-dis.c. The manipulation as part of a Binary File leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The print_insn_score32 function in opcodes/score7-dis.c:552 in GNU Binutils 2.28 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (buffer overflow and application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted binary file, as demonstrated by mishandling of this file during "objdump -D" execution.
The bug was discovered 06/13/2017. The weakness was released 06/19/2017 by Alex (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-9743 since 06/18/2017. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
