A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in LAME 3.99.5. Affected by this issue is the function III_i_stereo of the file layer3.c of the component mpglib. The manipulation as part of a Audio File leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The III_i_stereo function in layer3.c in mpglib, as used in libmpgdecoder.a in LAME 3.99.5 and other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (stack-based buffer overflow and application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted audio file.
The bug was discovered 06/17/2017. The weakness was published 06/25/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com.
