A vulnerability was found in Automatic Bug Reporting Tool (Reporting Software) (the affected version unknown) and classified as problematic. The event scripts in Automatic Bug Reporting Tool (ABRT) uses world-readable permission on a copy of sosreport file in problem directories, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information from /var/log/messages via unspecified vectors.
The bug was discovered 04/17/2015. The weakness was disclosed 06/26/2017 by Florian Weimer with Red Hat (Website). The advisory is shared for download at rhn.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-1870 since 02/17/2015. The attack needs to be approached locally. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 59 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84197 (CentOS 7 : abrt (CESA-2015:1083)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 155249 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Security Update for abrt (ELSA-2015-1210)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
