The kernel-invoked coredump processor in Automatic Bug Reporting Tool (ABRT) does not properly check the ownership of files before writing core dumps to them, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information by leveraging write permissions to the working directory of a crashed application.
The bug was discovered 04/17/2015. The weakness was presented 06/26/2017 by Florian Weimer with Red Hat (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-3142 since 04/10/2015. An attack has to be approached locally. A authentication is needed for exploitation.
