Multiple memory corruption issues existed in libxml. These issues were addressed by updating libxml to version 2.9.0.
This vulnerability is known as CVE-2011-3102 since 08/09/2011. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/25/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68629 (Oracle Linux 5 / 6 : libxml2 (ELSA-2012-1288)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks.
