A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in PHP up to 5.6.30/7.0.20/7.1.6 (Programming Language Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the file ext/openssl/openssl.c of the component OpenSSL Extension. In PHP before 5.6.31, 7.x before 7.0.21, and 7.1.x before 7.1.7, the openssl extension PEM sealing code did not check the return value of the OpenSSL sealing function, which could lead to a crash of the PHP interpreter, related to an interpretation conflict for a negative number in ext/openssl/openssl.c, and an OpenSSL documentation omission.
The bug was discovered 07/05/2017. The weakness was released 07/10/2017 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.php.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-11144 since 07/10/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
