Untrusted search path vulnerability in the GL tracing functionality in Mozilla Firefox before 24.0 on Android allows attackers to execute arbitrary code via a Trojan horse .so file in a world-writable directory.
The weakness was released 09/17/2013 by Vladimir Vukicevic with Mozilla Corporation as Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory 2013-87 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-1731 since 02/13/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. Upgrading to version 24.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
