The Zone-Based Firewall (ZFW) feature in Cisco IOS 15.1 through 15.2, when content filtering or HTTP ALG inspection is enabled, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (device reload or hang) via crafted IPv4 HTTP traffic, aka Bug ID CSCtx56174.

The weakness was presented 09/25/2013 as cisco-sa-20130925-cce as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at tools.cisco.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with Cisco. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-5476 since 08/22/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
