The Volume Manager Extension Driver in Microsoft Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012 and R2 allows an attacker to run a specially crafted application and obtain kernel information, aka "Volume Manager Extension Driver Information Disclosure Vulnerability".
The bug was discovered 08/08/2017. The weakness was shared 08/08/2017 with Microsoft as KB4034744 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is shared for download at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-8668 since 05/03/2017. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack needs to be approached locally. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
