The C++ symbol demangler routine in cplus-dem.c in libiberty, as distributed in GNU Binutils 2.29, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (excessive memory allocation and application crash) via a crafted file, as demonstrated by a call from the Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library (aka libbfd).
The bug was discovered 08/25/2017. The weakness was disclosed 08/28/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at sourceware.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-13716 since 08/28/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
