A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Lenovo System Update up to 5.07. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file SUService.exe. Lenovo System Update (formerly ThinkVantage System Update) before 5.07.0013 allows local users to submit commands to the System Update service (SUService.exe) and gain privileges by launching signed Lenovo executables.
The bug was discovered 10/15/2015. The weakness was released 10/03/2017 (Website). The advisory is available at support.lenovo.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-6971 since 09/16/2015. Local access is required to approach this attack. A single authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1202 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 718 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
