A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Dnsmasq up to 2.77 (Domain Name Software). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component IPv6 Router Advertisement Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Heap-based buffer overflow in dnsmasq before 2.78 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or execute arbitrary code via a crafted IPv6 router advertisement request.
The bug was discovered 10/02/2017. The weakness was shared 10/03/2017 by Felix Wilhelm with Google Security Team (Website). The advisory is available at mail-archive.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-14492 since 09/15/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
