A vulnerability has been found in Dnsmasq up to 2.77 (Domain Name Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component DHCPv6 Forwarded Request Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability (Memory). dnsmasq before 2.78, when configured as a relay, allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive memory information via vectors involving handling DHCPv6 forwarded requests.
The bug was discovered 10/02/2017. The weakness was released 10/03/2017 by Felix Wilhelm with Google Security Team (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mail-archive.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-14494 since 09/15/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
