A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome up to 58 (Web Browser). It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown functionality of the component WebRTC. The manipulation as part of a HTML Page leads to a race condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. Incorrect handling of picture ID in WebRTC in Google Chrome prior to 58.0.3029.96 for Mac, Windows, and Linux allowed a remote attacker to trigger a race condition via a crafted HTML page.
The bug was discovered 04/19/2017. The weakness was presented 10/27/2017 by Philipp Hancke (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at security.gentoo.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-5068 since 01/02/2017. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
