When auto-configuring a mail account on certain mailservers, the Mail app would choose plaintext authentication over CRAM-MD5 authentication. This issue was addressed through improved logic handling.This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-5181 since 08/15/2013. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.
