Apple Mac OS X up to 10.8 Python access control

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The weakness was released 10/22/2013 by Vincent Danen as APPLE-SA-2013-10-22-3 as confirmed mailinglist post (Apple Security Mailinglist). The advisory is shared for download at lists.apple.com. The mailinglist post contains:

Multiple vulnerabilities existed in python 2.6.7, the most serious of which may lead to decryption of the content of a SSL connection. This update addresses the issues by updating python to version 2.6.8 and applying the patch for CVE-2011-4944 from the Python project. Further information is available via the python site at http://www.python.org/download/releases/
This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-4944 since 12/23/2011. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62677 (Ubuntu 11.04 / 11.10 / 12.04 LTS / 12.10 : python3.2 vulnerabilities (USN-1615-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Ubuntu Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350649 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for python26: ALAS-2012-098).

Upgrading to version 10.9 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
